ABOUT LEAN ENERGY US

Our Mission

LEAN Energy US (Local Energy Aggregation Network) is a national 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2011 and dedicated to the accelerated expansion and competitive success of Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) programs nationwide. Bringing clarity and direction to a complex arena, we provide support, information resources and market expertise on CCAs to a national network of local, state, and federal governments, commercial and non-profit organizations, advocacy groups and individuals.

As the nation's premier hub for information, resources, networking, data, and education on CCA activities nationwide, LEAN represents nearly 20 million residential, commercial, and industrial electricity customer accounts served by Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) programs in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Rhode Island.

Core Functions and Services

LEAN’s programs and priorities are built around a framework of six core functions:

1. Outreach, Information and Education

Our primary focus is educating and raising awareness about the benefits and functional mechanics of CCA at the local, state, and federal level. We offer CCA “how to” presentations, webinars, educational workshops, web-based resources, and in-person events. We have presented at numerous national and international conferences, and frequently contribute to CCA-related white papers and studies.

2. CCA Market Analysis

We monitor CCA activities in all active and emerging states. LEAN provides information, key contacts, and professional advisory services for stakeholders wishing to pursue CCA and operational programs that need on-going support. Our national CCA metrics database tracks several data points for every CCA market in the US.

3. Regulatory and Legislative Affairs

LEAN supports new state legislation and pilot projects around the United States, particularly in the states of Arizona, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Virginia. We also participate in regulatory and legislative initiatives in CCA-enabled states.

4. Federal Engagement & Advocacy

We lead all federal advocacy and policy initiatives (online and in-person) for CCA stakeholders through LEAN's National CCA Federal Policy Committee. Our organization also assists CCAs in identifying and applying for federal funding.

5. National Coalition

LEAN serves as the national convening organization for Community Choice Aggregation stakeholders. We bring together CCAs, local and state governments, advocates, industry partners, and allied organizations to align strategy, share best practices, and elevate a unified national voice for CCA.

6. Market Formation, Development and Innovation

A big part of our job is to export CCA best practices, especially in the area of clean power integration. We support existing CCA programs and inspire them to expand by reporting out innovative programs. We also leverage our extensive network of industry leaders and members to advocate for the expansion of resources and support for CCAs in both established and emerging markets.

How We Create Impact

State & Local Engagement: We monitor CCA activity in all states, support enabling legislation and pilot projects, and provide regular updates, data, and technical insights to help communities succeed.

Federal & Policy Leadership: LEAN educates policymakers, leads a national CCA coalition, and advances federal advocacy efforts to expand resources and support for CCAs across established and emerging markets.

Research, Data & Convening: We produce national CCA studies, maintain a comprehensive CCA database, and host webinars, newsletters, and events to share insights and elevate best practices.
