Chicago Becomes Nation’s Largest Municipal Aggregation

It’s official: municipal aggregation is coming to Chicago. The city followed in the footsteps of nearly 200 other Illinois municipalities that had voted for aggregation earlier this year. Even before the November 6 referendum, Chicago had kicked off the first phase of competitive bidding for electricity provision under aggregation. How much green city residents will see is uncertain until a supplier is selected, but LEAN’s sources report that Chicago has opened the door to a coal-free aggregation contract.
