LEAN Energy U.S. is committed to the accelerated expansion and competitive success of clean energy CCAs (Community Choice Aggregation) nationwide.
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, home to California’s first CCA, LEAN Energy works in partnership with a range of organizations to actively support the formation and success of new CCAs around the country. LEAN (Local Energy Aggregation Network) brings clarity and direction to a complex arena by providing resources and expertise to local governments, advocacy organizations, and individuals wishing to launch CCA in their own states and communities.
LEAN is a mission-based organization dedicated to local energy transformation through CCA. We are fueled by the vision of
- Local control and regional benefit
- Consumer choice and affordable rates
- Aggressive reduction of carbon emissions
- Open, competitive energy markets
- Rapid expansion of renewable power and energy efficiency
- Economic opportunity and energy innovation
Launched in early 2011, LEAN Energy US is directed by its co-founders, Shawn Marshall and Megan Matson, and is guided by a seasoned group of advisers with executive-level expertise in the energy, finance, legal, environmental, and related business fields.
LEAN is a fiscally sponsored project of a registered 501(c)3 organization. Alliances of large and small communities work with LEAN on energy contract standards, CCA program design, legislative and regulatory issues, and the sharing of best practices and innovations. LEAN provides state and national resources, helps identify areas of regional collaboration, and helps build the market for CCAs around the country through its state CCA networks.
We are knowledgeable and passionate about our topic and are here to answer your questions, point you in the right direction, or guide you through the CCA process if you need help.
In Memoriam

LEAN Energy works in honor of the memory of its founding board member and former Marin County Supervisor, Charles McGlashan, and its first benefactor, founder and CEO of Motorola and the Galvin Electricity Initiative, Bob Galvin. We are grateful for the vision, leadership, and support they gave to make LEAN Energy possible.
